Hi guys!
Hope someone can advise before I loose all my sanity. Got an 04 Freelander 5 door, rear window of course doesn’t go down... so bought replacement cables watched the YT tutorials etc however... I can not get the window to lower so I can take out the bolts on the window clamp, I’ve tried cutting the current cables and it still does not lower please tell me there is a way before I take a bloody hammer to it!

Cutting the shortest cable (I've marked it in red) should allow the window to drop.

Honestly hate this window right now, as it’s stuck in the up position the short cable is tightly tucked behind the metal meaning I can’t quite get the wire cutters in

Ok so have finally gotten the glass down!!! Now... the bolts on the window clamp are giving me some hassle can’t seem to get them to unscrew, am I being daft it is righty tighty lefty loosy?

Right! So I once again need some help have got the window and all the mechanisms out etc thought to be safe I’d check the motor on it’s own... plugged back into car without cables and no movement only beeps from the window button. Took the motor apart all seems ok plenty of grease still on there but doesn’t seem to want to turn at all, is there any fixes or do I just order the new motor?

You need to put a meter or test light on the motor connector, to prove there's no power. If there is power, then the motor has failed. They're tough, but don't like being locked in one position with power applied, as they burn out.

Check fuse 31 in the fuse box by drivers knee. Failing that it sounds like a motor problem or the position sensor in the motor which is not easy to replace.

The window circuitry is complex and uses the central computer. There are inputs from the door lock, wiper, etc. There could be another problem with something else.

Motor could be tested by applying a 12v feed, if you have the circuit, to the motor terminals to be absolutely sure. It is the pins with blue/ green and blue/black wires. Pins 3 and 6.

Good luck!!

It was.... *drum roll* the motor! But did check both the fuse and the power which was a good call as I hadn’t thought of that. Next job is replacing a headlight motor... so far I have been unsuccessful is anything on these freelanders easy to do!?

Headlamp motor isn't too bad, but it helps if you remove the headlamp first.

Yes, the FL1 is easy to work on.
If you want something more challenging, then the FL2 is much more difficult, as it's very reliant on electronics. ;)

Yeah I took a look at it yesterday looks like you have to remove the front bumper to get the headlight out though? Which seems like an awful lot of faffing haha I’ll pass on the FL2 then!! This one is causing enough temper tantrums :D

You do indeed, but once you've got the rusty wheel arch liner to bumper screws out, the the bumper comes off easily enough. The headlamp mounting bolts are then easy got at. ;)
