About 10 years ago I was working in Germany fixing old London buses, I took my 52 reg L322 as my work car with tools and bits. One of the rear lights had a crack and allowed water to gather inside the light unit, it didn't affect the lights so I didn't worry about it.
But as I was checking over one of the buses, the local TüV man (their equivalent to the ministry man) turned up to find out a bout the bus. I had a chat with him, explained how things worked on a Routemaster, then he looked across at my car. I thought "oh dear" or words to that effect, is he going to say something about my cracked back light. Yes, he is.
He came over to me with his tapping hammer and clipboard and said "I see you have a problem with your back light, the lens is broken". "Oh dear" again. "You must come with me and I will show you the problem"... "your goldfish have escaped".
