I have searched on this honest!
Got the swivel pin kit which has top pin and bush, bottom bearing, shims and a funny brown hard washer thing with a square hole in it!
Question is, what do I have to strip off to do this replacment job? Haynes reckons take the whole housing off. Is there any way to do it in situ? And where does this funny brown washer go please?
Has anyone done a Buster type guide to this?

Thanks in anticipation

it does need stripping back to swivel housing then remove chrome ball ,if you undo the 2 top swiven pin bolts and caliper 2 x 13mm bihex (but 1/2 inch is better fit)caliper can be tied up to radiusr arm without disturbing brake system ,bottom swivel pin doesnt need undoing and best left in place ,preload on swivel housing can be done withy fishing type scale secured in balljoint hole in steering arm ,it needs checking with seal not secured in housing ,seal retainer and seal need pushing over axle end the correct way round before chrome ball is refiitted, bush types as you have needs a preload of 10 to 14lbs later type with bearing at top only 2lbs,this is later type but may help http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rc...5pdpWwxWkbmHZu9qw&sig2=UsT_8marTtrCsfqUQq-dAg

type in "rebuild swivel housing on land rover" on Google and there is a PDF file that comes up on www.legionlandrover.com site.
It gives all the torque and pull off settings you need as well. :)

Did this job yesterday. All went well and ended up changing CV joints as well. (One was cracked in 4 places around the edge):(. Only challenge I had was the half shaft was not sticking out enough to get the spacer and circlip on (on end of driving member). But when I slackened of top king pin I got it out then. Does anyone know what size thread bolt actually goes into the threaded slot on the end of the half shaft? I tried everything I had and it didnt fit. Its a bit larger than M10!
