1988 suzuki samurai.Every time i shift gears ,i get a knock or clonk.I
checked drive shaft seems fine.Real end seems to have about a inch or
more play.how much play should be in real and can you adjust it?Please

What sort of play? Is it up-down or side-side or a rotational play? If up-down or side-side, the pinion bearing may be loose
or worn out, either tighten it or replace it. Some amount of rotational play (backlash) is normal, too much may indicate worn
ring or pinion gears. You might try draining the gear oil and see if its loaded with metal shavings, if so maybe pull the diff
and have a shop look at it.
