I'm beginning to regret buying my discovery - spent a lot of money buying a low mileage - 70k 2000 TD5 hoping it would be nice & reliable.

First thing to go was the fuel pressure thingy then a pipe on the PAS got a hole & dumped all the fluid out.

The back of it was looking a bit low & after being on the ramp at having the pipe changed the back end looks even lower.

Garage said the compressor might be on the way out - how can I tell - will it eventually just die? What will happen then? Does anyone have any photos of a "normal" backend!

Am waiting with trepidaion to see what gets posted;)

Am a mere girly & new on here so hopefully you lovely lads will be gentle!

I did try pushing button to lift the back -it flashed but nothing seemed to happen - does it have to be in low range.

The problem is that I haven't had it long so haven't worked out what everything does & what is "normal"

Will the light with the arrow on come on if the back is too low - compressor not working.

It was put on a computer last week as the light that looks like a bowl with a drip underneath was coming on intermittently. That didn't show any suspension faults - would it have done?

Seems like one thing after another at the mo :(
 
select low range keep doors closed press the raise button.the car should lift to off road hieght. that orange light with the drip is the feul filter warning light water in feul filter.The filter is behind rear wheel lookes like big coke can with a plastic nob on the bottom you can unscrew it to drain water out.
 
Dont despair, after everything will be fixed u'll go another 70K miles without probs;)....u bought it when everything starts to fail. The bowl with a drip is water in fuel warning, it's a senor on the bottom of the fuel filter which is making it...dont bother with it for now, it doesnt make any damage, some of the discos dont even have that. For the suspension, the fact that it stays lower but doesnt drop it means the bags are good, first of all the fuse FL9 and relay R5 from engine bay must be checked, if these are good the compressor might be blocked or burnt...if u are lucky it can be "resuscitated"

no offence mate... the ORM(off road mode/extended height) has nothing to do with low/hi range...only the HDC(hill descent controll...explanations are for the lady ;)) is depending on that . The ORM is speed related only... it will work just below 18mph

So the ORM(I'm leaning!) should make the suspension rise if the compressor is working ok? If it doesn't what will happen if I ignore it? Will it make it undrivable if it gives out completely?

The fuel filter light came on before I had the fuel filter changed(last week) & it's still doing it - does that mean the sensor is iffy? I'll just carry on ignoring it if it doesn't do any damage.
 
The ORM is for off road driving and lifts the back with extra 10cm to increase the ground cleareance...that's why it works just untill 18mph. On a good SLS(self levelling suspension) system if the car is stationary and u push the ORM switch(3 seconds) the compressor must pump and the back raise while the lamp is flashing then stop at the higher level and the lamp to stay on....if u push it again it will go back to normal and light extinguish) This enhancement if u dont use it doesnt affect driveability. The compressor+valves must inflate/deflate the bags based on the ride height sensor's input as to keep the car on level if load is putted or removed from the car....the fact that yours is not straight is not good ...for the compressor to work all the doors/taildoor must be shut

Thanks for the explanations - it back of the disco is down evenly both sides - I'm not sure what the "normal" height should be - I guess I could go round tesco's carpark looking at other discos.

If the ORM doesn't make it go up does that imply the compressor is gone?

Will it eventually end up too far down at the back to drive?

Haven't got the money at the mo to get it fixed if it can still be driven safely with a low back end.

But you decide where to measure. I have biggish tyres on the truck. It might just be worth noting the difference between them.

That fuse and relay i said before must be checked first...ask somebody to check them.... the back of the car must be at the same height with the front(aprox.) If the ORM doesnt work it means that for some reason the compressor is not pumping(not necessarely compressor gone)...this way in time the back will drop more. Untill u'll have enough money to fix it u can buy these Air Suspension emergency Air Valves 4mm OD Discovery 2 | eBay , ask a m8 to put them instead of the air pipes in the bags and inflate the bags to normal height with a tyre inflator... remove the SLS relay R5 from engine bay while u are driving like this.... the level will stay on for days, it will go down slowly and then u can inflate them again.
 
I measured mine at the centre of the wheel arch from the kerb. Standing it was 70cm then turned the engine on and this time it didn't raise. But after a press of the lift arse button it went up to 74.5cm. So a difference of 4.5cm at the centre of the wheel arch.

How do I do this.

I popped round this morn for jackstringer to have a look & established that it really is too low at the back.

If the fuse & relay are ok I will get some of the emergency air valves - are they easy to fit?

Fl9 if u look at the "link" inside u can see if it's burnt or not, for relay swap R5 with R8(heated front screen) and try then ...if the compressor will work then buy a new relay and repplace it.

Those valves are going into the fitting of the bags instead of the pipes....push inside the metal ring with a screwdriver and pull trhe pipe then just push in the pipe of the valve and pull back to fix... if it's not a push-fit connector u'll need some handiness to addapt the connection for the old screw-in type
