In the UK, thankfully.
I am presently restoring my Series 3 SWB Landrover to a working condition. My rear spring hangers were rusted out so I measured then cut them out. I repaired the chassis around this area and have new spring hangers. Looking at this today I found it is going to be difficult to line both hangers up with each other. It was easy on a previous rebuild as I replaced the rear 1/4 chassis with spring hangers fitted. What I propose to do is to buy a 4 foot length of steel rod that will fit tightly into the hangers and use this to keep them aligned. How have you guys done this in the past?

piece of steel bar should be reet if your gonna put it through the boltholes on the hangers and theyre a snug fit i cant see why not

Thanks Johnny, I tried a bit of wood but it wasnt strong enough and just bent so I will go for the steel rod. Its just a bit smaller than copper pipe.I was thinking of making a jig type tool as I will be doing this again.:)

i suspect your idea will still allow you to misalign them quite easily

i'd be more inclined to drop the front of the spring as well before removing the rear shackle mounts and making up a piece of channel/box/angle iron to bolt between the front mount and shackle mount, this then should give you an inflexible distance spacer/jig for fitting the new ones

drill the holes to suit the correct diameter bolts as well

Good thinking, although I have removed the hangers I did measure their position so I reckon a jig piece from front hanger to rear, coupled with left to right hangers jig piece is the way forward.:)
