stupid gray smoke

My truck smokes. . a lot. Clouds of gray/white smoke at all times. Less at speed but still noticeable and very bad at idle. I thought advancing the timing a little might clear things up but after removing the cover plate and three tensioner bolts the 22mm adjustment nut is already as far clockwise as it can go. So no more advance there. It hasn't always smoked like this so i am hesitant to try adjusting the timing from the belt. So my next though is an injector that is stuck open or leaking. So my plan is to replace the injectors (i do not know how old they are). After that i start worrying about the pump internals. . .

The truck idles a little rough and seems to ave lost some pep (pep being relative here) at higher speeds/rpms

Any other ideas/thoughts on getting rid of the smoke? Agree, disagree?

Your injection pump is not designed to be adjustable ! The slight amount of movement is for getting the timing in the correct place for the belt and crank position !! You may have a fuel problem ! Have you changed fuel filter ? Are your inter cooler hoses etc good?? Have you checked valve clearances ?? Air filter etc ?? All these things should be checked !!!!

Thanks for giving me some things to check before dishing for injectors. Those things are pretty pricey compared to any diesel engine i have had before. I need to do some research on how to check/adjust valve clearances. The rest should just be tightening.

Little curious about the turbo seals as well but i am not losing oil so i don't feel like it's leaking too much.

you can check turbo by removing hose from turbo to intercooler, tappets are 8 thou or .2mm using no9 method, pump pulley needs readjusting so its in center of slot when all pins are fitted
