Just bought a 2.5 petrol head for my 1975 swb petrol. The head on mine is very butchered around the thermostat housing and its not unleaded so it was a perfect solution when one appeared on e-bay. My main question relates to the manifold studs, are the threads the same 2.5 to 2.3?

Thanks in advance to anybody replying.

I would say no. The later 5 bearing engines where metric so I would think the 2.5 also is.

all 5 bearing engines are metric so 2.3 will be

Hi James, are you referring specifically to the 5mb heads all being metric or the engines in general?
My nov 1980 5 bearing is imperial and so is my spare 5mb engine which (diesels).
I was informed by Turner Engineering that the switch to metric was in 1981 and therefore some 5mb were imperial.
I can't speak specifically for the head but definitely some other aspects of the engine.

The easiest way to find out is to take a nut off and try a metric one on ... if it don't fit, there is a very good chance that it might be Imperial

Even the socket/spanner size gives a reasonably good clue

I've seen people get dirty hands doing daft things like that! :)
