Stuck drivers door

Hi guys & gals..

Locked the hippo this morning outside the school to go and watch my daughters harvest festival.. Got back, went to unlock, all locks pop up, drivers door doesnt (as usual)..

Inserted key to unlock (as usual) now it wont unlock on the key.. itll lock it, but not unlock.. Reached accross from passenger side to pull interior handle.. WONT UNLOCK... FFS!!!

Now ive searched this forum and others for info, and i already know why the lock doesnt work off the remote.. And i was going to buy a replacement solonoid.. its on the to do list......:rolleyes:

However, my hippo seems to be teaching me a lesson, and is not allowing me to use the door.. PERIOD!

What i cant find in all the answers ive searched on gere is HOW i get the bloody door open now.. Ive spotted a locking mechanism on fleabay for £30.. So am going to buy it, but can someone on here enlighten me on how to get this door open???? It seems like its "superlocked" permanently.. And being 6"2" and 17 stone, i dont look graceful or elegant climbing over to my seat from the passenger side.. (it reminds me of owning my vauxhall viva many moons ago ((shudder))

On top of this, Mrs Newcyboots will be home from work at 5, and will NOT be impressed at having to climb over from passenger side when she drives it..!! She'll think that our neighbour will be quote "staring at my ass and tits again"!!!

Appreciate some advice!!:D

"staring at my ass and tits again"

you should know the rules by now: "Photos !"

All jokes aside, it sounds like it is the superlock solenoid which has failed rather than the normal locking.

there is a thread on here about this, essentially, you have to remove the door card from inside the car to gain access, even then I'm not sure how you would get it to unlock from deadlocked. maybe getting the door card off will allow you to give it a couple of taps from a hammer which might just free it off.

you will have to take the door card off anyway to change the lock assembly so it's not wasted work, but it will be as awkward as anything to do with the door closed.

good luck with this

Hi OP,

DOH:doh: photos.... Youd think id know by now wouldnt you!!!

Next problem i have ill chuck some on

Went out there with a nice hot cup of coffee ready for a long haul, but after i got the door card off, the lock pops up.. it must have been obstructed somehow by the card, as it worked fine on the key when i took it off?

Put the card back on now, and all is well. Got a 2nd hand solonoid of ebay for £30, so will install when it comes.. I did the passenger front about two months ago, and it only took my about 45 mind (and some grated nuckles!!)

Im just glad the thing isnt bloody superlocked shut!!

Thanks for your reply.

That was lucky :) I had the same thing with an MGF but it had done the superlocking thing the failed :( I had to remove the door card from inside then attack the lock body inside the door with a chisel to break it up so I could remove it.

might be worth just locking it with one turn of the key rather than the fob until you have replaced lock assembly, this will stop the alarm arming, but crucially, will also stop the dealock engaging
