Hello all, hope everybody had a good Christmas :) I have been a member for a while but haven't had to ask a question up till now. (And I have searched but couldn't find an answer) would really appreciate some of your experience :)

I have a G reg 90 with a discovery 200tdi engine fitted. However I am struggling identifying my rear stub axles and paddocks also couldn't find the correct one... If anybody could shed any light on this it would be greatly appreciated.

The axle is a rover one I believe, has 24 splined half shafts with 10 inch drum brakes, and the half shafts are joined (welded) to the drive flanges (which appears to be a disco thing? Could be wrong)

The stub Axles I looked at in paddocks had a longer thread for 52mm nut to go on, and the other type had a raised centre at the rear (where attaches to axle flange) whereas mine is recessed. They looked at discovery ones too and Salisbury axle ones and couldn't find anything that matched. I have put pictures below of what the stub axle looks like along with images of whole axle and diff casing to hopefully be able to get an answer.

Thanks very much in advance - hope somebody can help on this.

A Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to you too. FRC8540 I think is the right one for you.

Thanks very much for your reply Richard - I looked at that one in paddocks and compared to mine (had it in my hand) but the overall length (due to thread length) was longer - so I thought that this increased length would mean the half shafts would not engage fully into the diff? What are your thoughts on this?

I have put an image below to hopefully explain more clearly than my words! (Please forgive the slightly phallic drawing!)

drum brake axle should be 10 spline diff ,your half shafts look like later shafts ftc3720 and ftc3721 with raised seal track ground off, stub axle ftc3188 would normally be used which has a seal in rear of the stub, but the ones fitted do look like frc8540 cut down to fit shafts which is why you cant match it ,24 spline shafts stubs etc are shorter than 10 spline to reduce protrusion from hub face to enable larger choice of ali wheels

No problem on the drawing

It shouldn't matter, as the threaded part usually sits inside the hub. Your 'current' stub axle looks like it's had some of the threaded area taken off (large burr removal possibly) and doesn't look standard.

Ah whoops, drums i should say, not disc.
