Ive noticed very recently that when under power, there is a sound coming from the transmission tunnel, like a slightly slack chain???

HAving had a look at the RAVE and spare parts sites etc, i understand that there is a chain in there, but should you be able to hear any noise from it or am i going to experience another range rover rodgering fairly soon?

On a side note, are there any recommendations as to the best place to get a gearbox service kit from?? An can the job be completed on a drveway??

Thanks

transfer box is seperate to gearbox , t/box doesnt need a service kit , but seals and bearings are avalable though they rarely wear bad ,chains arent the issue some pretend ,but can wear and when they do they catch the case , if you jack up a front and rear whel you can feel play in box through rotating props back and forth by hand ,also worth checking oil for debris , auto box clutch baskets etc and epicyclic gear set in t/box can get play over the years and give a clunk or whine but thats not really fixable economically
