Stiffy gears

Hi members.
My old td4 finally bit the dust after leaving a lot of the engine oil and bits of the turbo across the M25.
Had a great opportunity to purchase a Freelander 2, 7 years old with a genuine mileage of 16000. All service docs to prove it. Excellent car apart from the manual gearbox. Sort of feels like the clutch is not fully disengaged, hard to engage gears, clonky, but not always, vastly improved with the warm weather, but still not good. Tried changing the gearbox oil to ensure the correct grade is installed. Has helped but is still very disappointing. Please help, any suggestions welcome. Many thanks. Devonshire

Use the gear leaver to change gear instead of yu nob !

Maybe the previous owner rode the clutch and warped the driven plate. 16,000 miles seems very low for a 7 year old car. So I'm guessing it was driven at weekends by someone a bit older and a bit deaf. Just a guess, but I've come across that scenario several times over the years.

Thanks for the response Nodge68, not what I was hoping for, but it could explain things. I guess it needs a new clutch, is there any tests that I could try before committing to a change to ensure that it is definitely the clutch.

You can try bleeding the system, unless its cable operated, if there are any flexi hoses, these might be ballooning rather than move slave the full travel

Thanks for the reply Freelance.
I believe its cable, could it need adjusting? If so, how and to what setting? There is something that looks like a clutch cable on top of the gearbox, but I can easily push it full travel with my thumb. Cant even find anything on youtube about it. Many thanks. Devonshire
