Sticky starter solenoid

Hi all,

following a happy half hour under my Disco - think I have traced an intermittant starting problem to a sticky starter solenoid.

Before whipping it off - which looks like a bit of a bu**er to be honest - I notice that it has a short length of rubber pipe from it's underneath to drain it following emersion.

Any comment on taking a can of WD40, inserting the nozzel up the pipe and squirting profusely?

dont know off hand, bit i doubt it will do any harm either.
you might need a few goes at it, trying the starter in between to get the stuff sloshing around.

get yerself an 18" long peice of steel bar, the type they use to hold concrete shuttering up,or a road pin(if you know what that is). every time it fails, open the bonnet and lump the starter with the said bar, this usually gives a ropey starter at least another 6 months of life
