Hello,

Just developed a worrying fault on my Range Rover. Just had a small service and had the drag link and the track bar ( bar that joins the two wheels ) replaced due to worn track rod ends. Also had the front brake pads replaced. The vehicle was fine before the fix but today I hit a pothole at speed and the dreaded vibration of death occured. It was fine before, and after I had slowed down it dissapeared and carried on as normal. Do you think my wonderful dealer had forgotten to track the vehicle after fitting the new ends??? Should this have been done as there is no charge for it on the bill?? Would this cause the problem?? Just to test it I drove over the same pothole about an hour later and bingo same again but nothing in between?? Your advice would be appreciated.
Just to make things worse I am travelling home to France Tuesday towing a heavy trailer, so have very little time to get it sorted. If anyone knows somewhere in the Banbury Oxfordshire area that will do tracking on a Sunday that would help a lot.

Sounds like the tracking is out or the steering damper is worn.

They should have done the tracking when the joints were changed but i bet all they did was count the turns when removing the old ones, all well and good if the new joints are EXACTLY the same length as the old, take it back and let rip!!

Check tracking and steering damper. My local specialist told me they reject half of all new dampers due to faulty operation. The complete travel should be consistently smooth both ways. If you find any spots of bubbles of flat spots get a new one, and test that before fitting.

Hello

Thamks for your replies. Got the vehicle tracked today at dear ol Quick Fit ( the one in Banbury is a good one). It was 3 degrees out now sorted and no more problem. Tried the same bit of road and nothing. So feeling a bit more relaxed now about the drive to France.

Kind regards

hi, seems like you have solved your vibration problem, was it the tracking as i too have the same problem. mine only vibrates at 50 to 60 mph though, what speed did yours occur at? strange thing is it doesnt always do it, comes and goes throughout the day, strange! would you reccomend getting the tracking checked, i would be gratrful for any help as it really is annoying, cheers.
