Hi Folks, I hope that you can help. My Freelander has been having problems with the steering. After I have turned hard left or right eg at a roundabout or wide bend the steering gets, for want of a better word, wobbly. It also feels like it is pulling to the left and I hear a metal grating noice. I also notice that if I accelerate I hear a clunking sound coming from underneath.
Any ideas what might be causing it?

OK. Freelander is sitting in the garage. The guy says that it looks like it could be the diff. Is he right in saying this could cost about £1000 for parts alone?

i would check wheel bearings first then cv's the front transfer would normally effect both left and right. . .best oh luck. . .:) :) :)

If it clunks from the rear - then it could be the rear diff or rear diff mounts.

Replacement diff (brand new) is about £350. They can be found in LRO Magazine or search for a company called ashcroft transmissions.

Mine clunks now and again, but after 100K - i cant moan.

Will be on the cards for replacement once funds allow.
