I've been checking the steering and swivel housings on my 1969 2A this week. This is the first Land Rover I've owned myself and I don't have another at hand to compare with..

I have a steering lock stop bolt and stop plate on the driver's side (off-side, in my case) swivel pin housing.

There is no such stop bolt and plate arrangement on the other side, so no obvious limit to the steering lock in that direction. Is it just missing? It seems like both sides should have the same method for setting the max steering lock?

My II, IIA & III 1958 - 1977 petrol workshop manual also describes a 'jack stop', as "Location stop for jack (RH only)" (Fig 8.12 Removing the swivel pin housing), but I can't find anything on either side that looks like this, and I can't figure out how it relates to a jack - as in a car jack..?

What should I have on each side?

Cheers!

ok, cheers. good to know, I can fit another on the near-side.

so what about this jack-stop and stop plate? it doesn't look adjustable in the manual. what's it for and where should it be?

the bent plate is secured to the front ball to axle case bolt, the long swivel seal retainer bolt and nut is adjustable, by screwing in as far as needed the locking the nut

Yeah I can see where those bits go and how to use them.

I think I'm being a muppet about the 'jack stop' and stop plate. I think that figure is actually just saying, on the swivel pin housing to axle case, ensure the jack stop is correctly positioned in the lower most hole, and the stop plate is correctly positioned in the hole above that, directly opposite the long adjustable retainer bolt.

I was looking for a 'jack stop' on the seal retainer and couldn't work out why it would be there in the first place - because I'd read the diagram wrong. :)

When the manual says something like "RH only", as it does for the jack stop, which side does it mean? On the right when looking from front of vehicle to back?
