Steering issues

Hi everyone

I am probably being a bit thick but I have a steering issue that is puzzling me.

I have just chnaged all of the track rod ends, removing old ones and fitting the new ones, one at a time.

The vehicle has been without an engine and gearbox and has been pushed backwards and forwards in and out of the garage. However, the rebuild has begun in earnest and now I find that I have less then a 1/2 turn the right and loads of turns to the left!!

I think my kids may have been spinning the steering wheel, the steering arms have been off the relay for a while too!

Can anyone give me some guidance on what I need to do?

Also, the vehicle is in the Bristol area and I need a new rear cross member welding on to the vehicle can anyone recommend anyone?

You sure you put the track rod end back on in the same place (Count the number of turns when you took it off).
If that's ok then
Set the wheel straight ahead
Disconnect the drop arm (steering box) track rod end then turn the steering wheel all the way in one direction and the the other way counting the number of turns.
Then divide by two and turn the wheel back by that much so its in the middel
You should be in the straight ahead.
Now ajust the track rod ends to allow you to connect the drop arm again.

sounds like the linage isnt on the relay right to me. took me a time or two to be able to get full lock both ways on mine.

its probelly a bit of both you need to centralise the box then put yer arms on to the relay at the correct angle which i think is just shy of 90°,
87° if me memory is working

Correct me if I'm wrong guys, but on the splined taper output shaft from the steering box isn't there one oversize spline that is supposed to mate with one oversized groove on the drop arm?

I think so, certainly one the ones I have played with (not very many) so some alignment care needs to be taken.

what part of bristol r u in i am near avonmouth and there is a kiddie down the road that does welding he aint the worlds greatest but reasonably priced and open to a bit of cash negotiation

the top arm can be put on at any position tho charles
