Hi Folks
I have some steering and knocking problems on my TD5 1999 Disco.
1) I have checked and found that a track rod end ball joint is knocking so I have to replace that,
2) When pulling on the front anti roll bar you get some play and knocks,
3) plus I have some free-play in the steering you can get hold of the lower steering column and turn it about 1/4 of a turn plus if you pull up and push down on it you have some free play on the top UJ nearest to the bulkhead.

The Disco has ACE but no air suspension.

How hard is it to replace the Anti roll bar bushes because of the ACE, is it possible to do without removing the anti roll bar if you use poly bushes with them being in halves and not having to disconnect anything from the ACE System.

Is the track rod assembly easy to replace as a complete unit, And the lower steering column is that easy to replace as I have a small amount of play in that also.

4) And to add insult to injury, I have on setting off and when just about to stop a heavy clunk from the front which I think is the transmission.
You can grab hold of the front prop shaft and turn it through about 20 degrees or so, the rear prop shaft is perfectly sold with no movement. Is it likely to be the front Diff or the output side of the transfer box onto the front prop shaft.

The reason I ask all this is that I have relocated to southern Ireland and dealers are rubbish so I'm led to believe and are hugely expensive. And as yet i haven't been able to find a reasonable independent who can do the work.

So it will be down to me, so any good advice and suggestions would be really appreciated from those on here who know far more than me

Thank you for the advice I hopefully will get from you all!!!

The anti roll bar bushes are dead easy - undo the bolts securing the plates, drop the bar, replaces the bushes, bolt it back to 45nm.
I just did mine (with ACE) and it really is that simple. The standard bushes are split and slide on as well as the poly ones.

My prop shafts are the same as yours - front moves, back doesnt - I dont know if this its normal.

Ive been told its worth replacing the panhard bushes too which is next on my list. Apparently this can cure some wander in the steering.
You can adjust the backlash in the steering box - its ni the haynes manual but I didnt do it yet.
