With regard to the K series 1.8 motor in a FL1 can a replacement starter be used from an MG F. They look the same. The MG's starter motor has the pt number NAD10050 and the FL has the p't number NAD101090.
Would the difference be in the starter motor's mounting plate? I thinking the motor and its solenoid are the same. Both are 1800cc motors so I'm thinking the electrikery bits are a match and both would have the same power to turn that motor over.
 
Can't see there would be a problem if the MGF one fitted. Could it just be different sides to the same company giving it their own part numbers
 
I believe that they physically fit but I'm sure I've read that the Freelander has a higher powered starter. I can't think why as the VVC K series has a higher compression ratio than the Freelander's engine.
