Hi guys

Done a search and my problems don't seam to match. When I turn the key I get a clicking noise from the solenoids for about 2secs and then she fires up. Not sure if the battery is buggered even though I've charged it up.

Or could I have a short that would drain the battery?

Stuck on this one??

Any ideas or suggestions? Don't want to buy a new starter unless I can help it

when you say clicking, do you mean the engine turns over? or is it not turning over? if it fires up after a few revolutions, then your battery cant be that bad.

When you turn the key you should only get 1 click from the solonoid. It sounds like corroded starter connections or a bad earth. Repetative clicking is normally a sign of flat battery but I can't see it being that as it clicks a couple of times and then turns over. Are you letting the glow plug light extinguish before you turn the key cos it could be they are taking the battery power needed for the starter if you are doing both at the same time?

ok so the solenoid energiser connection appears to be loose and came off in my hands....now can't see where the spade connection is without taking either the exhaust or the turbo off. Anyone got a pic or diagram of where the terminal is?

Had a feel around but found nothing? I just hope the spade hasn't fallen off the solenoid. Any help?

mine is too covered in mud to see. The advised method when changing the starter is usually to remove the down pipe but it really depends on how corroded the bolts are. Hopefully somebody on here will be able to look at theirs for you to save you having to do this.

well anyone that wants to get at the solenoid an easy way of doing it is taking off your windscreen resovior and that allows you to get your hand in and have a good old feel around.....oh disconnect the battery first.....hahahaha

All fixed and the beast is back!!

ratty cheers mate thanks
