Disco 1 Standard Height HD Suspension

I'm looking to upgrade and refresh my shocks and springs on the 1994 Disco 3 door TDi and have been looking at Terrafirma kits however i'm a little confused and wondering if anyone can help.

I've seen a lot of kits that are suitable for Defender 90/Disco 1/Range Rover all at the same time, but the only Terrafirma HD kit i can find lists Defender 90 but not disco. Do these 3 cars share the same shock and springs set-up? (Might seem a stupid question, but for example by TT currently runs on VW Golf suspension!)

The kits i am looking at are one of the following;

So really i'm looking for advice on if they will

a) Fit my Disco
b) are the best standard height HD option (Car used for towing and maybe green laning)

No they are not the same, the Defender has has HD springs as standard due to the nature the work the vehicle is intended for, the early RR had progressive rear springs with a self levelling strut, and only the rear springs were upgraded to HD the so called 'police spec springs'.
For the D1 Land Rover had a rear HD spring option called HD in the parts book, also remember that diesel springs are handed and different rates to the petrol D1s.

There's a Land Rover spring rate list on the www with the colour codes for all Land Rover models using steel springs, j

Thanks for the info, it's seems quite tricky to find a full springs and shocks kit for the Disco that aren't with a 2" lift!

Anyone got any magic links for kits?

There are loads of options. Just don't make it difficult for yourself. Standard springs are standard springs. I'm sure places like Paddocks list them and same as with shocks. Now if you want something that isn't standard, that's a different question. HD means heavy duty, ie a higher spring rate. This means the suspension won't sag as much when loaded. But unloaded it will probably sit higher. Stiffer springs will work well for loaded vehicles and towing, but when empty might ride harder and off road won't be so supple and might not flex as well.

Flatdog do some interesting springs. Might be worth a look if you want something different to normal standard springs:

but to match dampers to them would be interesting, I have yellow Bilstein kit in the garage ready to be fitted once I decide on springs

That seems like a good spring kit, standard height with decent spring rates (Need these for towing 1700kg of car and trailer!).

I'll probably combine them with the Terrafirma HD shocks then;

don't forget a decent steering damper as well (usually forgotten when rest of suspension is replaced

)

Thanks!! Should have mentioned this is on my list to order with the Terrafirma shocks to match!
