Nothing’s straight forward on old Landies! What should have been a straightforward front pad change has now become a calliper ‘rebuild’ due to the state of the current pistons.
I’m going to get some SS pistons and original seals, how do I know what size/type to get without stripping the calliper down? The callipers may be original to the vehicle, but I’d like to be sure!
Thanks

SS pistons every time IMO. new calipers can be a PITA - got some allmakes ones for SWMBO's D1 cos I was too busy to refurb her original ones. You know what's coming next ...... :mad::mad:

More trouble than it was worth - ended up just doing her originals with SS pistons and sending the "new" sh*t (IMO!) back ... won't bother again .... but then I won't have to, as we have all SS pistons now so :p to rust ;)

If you're unsure about the piston dimensions, pop the pads out and measure them :) - then ask the seller Kevstar linked to above :)

There are some cheap ones out there, but mostly without s/s pistons. Original quality are about £100+ a pop, with chromed pistons. The callipers themselves are in good shape, just the pistons that are a bit crappy.

Doubt they were ss for 25 quid, but they fitted and worked well, britpart as well!

Bought these ones, £10 cheaper on their website than their eBay page.

Result :) Wee job for during the week then. I noticed my disco pulling to one side as I haven't driven it
for a week or so, il end up doing the caliper pistons as well since its going off the road for some rust treatment
& a few other jobs I want to do.

I haven’t done pistons before, hopefully I won’t balls it up! I’m not intending on splitting the callipers, but I’m concerned about getting them in ‘square’, can’t be that tricky can it?

Na its easy put them in with a g clamp or wind back tool. They come out easy though pump pump pop lol

I’ve seen the vids with a compressor, wouldn’t want to get your knob caught in there!
Even with a compressor I couldn't get one of my rear pistons out. It's exciting when you've got the compressor on and you're anticipating it popping out. Some of them come out with quite a bang
