Hello, came to UK last week with the TD4 2005 Facelift FL1 (manual trans, no cruise control). During the ferry crossing and hour getting through a DRENCHED Portsmouth, I had both the SRS light come on and the orange hill descent warning light show. Overnight; the HDC warning disappeared. But SRS still shows.

I am back in France today and have put my iCarsoft LR to work and have NO fault codes showing. Nothing. Weirdness in extreme.

I thought that the vibrations of the ferry had somehow opened up one of the usual vulnerabilities; connections under seat, clock spring, HDC switch and wiring etc. Did the easy things like fuses etc too as well as a thorough examination of region around brake light switch. I've re-made all the connections I can with switch cleaner spray. Checked all earthing points for cleanliness.

The SRS light goes out when I commence the start procedure and then relights about 1 to 2 seconds later, whether I start the engine or not. (I confess that the HDC light coming on concerns me a little but it is out now, a clue to something).

Any thoughts please? All a bit puzzling really so an extra experienced idea might help me. I can`t see that I have done anything a stealer/dealer would do but we love these beasts (although at present I could drink the afternoon away in mounting frustration).

Thanks all.

Welcome to LZ, a weird world full of wonders and some nutters ...

Does a hippo drive you to drink?? 🤣

What’s so infuriating is everything else is working, even HDC. Pretensioners are all same length.

I’m ringing The Samaritans later…. they surely know some of our issues!

My first thoughts are whether the icarsoft can talk to the SRS and if it does whether it successfully connected to your SRS ECU.

Sounds silly when you have your own diagnostic device, but I'd see if there was a garage willing to give you the codes on a no-win-(ie find any codes)-no-fee basis.

If there are genuinely no codes, then I'd query whether the instrument pack has a fault because if you can talk to the SRS ECU and there are no codes, then there should not be any lights lit.

I'd also have a look at Rave to see what it says about SRS and why the light would be lit.

Thanks, while out shopping for beer to help my misery, I thought much as you. I’ve called a friend who has the LR setup to fully diagnose. Maybe there is something happening with the ECU and there is no fault at all with the systems it’s monitoring, like a false negative. I’ll post back when I get a better picture.

Thanks for the reply @GrumpyGel.

My Icarsoft doesn't connect to SRS.
Probably a connector under seat or the clock spring as you say but a proper code read will tell you which one.
