Hi there, newbie here.

I got my first 4x4 this year, and I would like to use it as LR intended.

My beast is a Disco1 and I use it quite a bit for towing. I'm not far from Devil's Pit however, so would like to visit there from time to time, and also some laning.

From what I have researched, one of the reasons newbie's get stuck is due to road tyres, so I have opted to obtain some muds for the fun weekend, and swap back to road wheels for the daily commute.

I tow trailers or other vehicles every other weekend or so, and would like some advice on spring choice. From my understanding off road springs would not really be suitable for towing. Can anyone offer some advice based on experience? Should I just stick with the stock springs?

Many Thanks.

Hey i wouldnt advise going to devils pit in to whaddon first less likely to destroy your car and a let wash to get it ready to drive home afterwards

Ok springs
If towing is your thing then i would replace all the springs with new ones my mota runs range rover springs all round they are 3 inches taller and alot softer 175lbs an inch opposed to 215lbs an inch on my 90 this is why mine leans over no corners with those tyres yet brought you may need a lift mabe 2 inch and some cutting of arches and extended bump stops of thinks Jai

britparts havy duty springs are ok for most on road handling and not bad for off,
a bit jumpy ,and give 2.5 in' lift.

be very careful with 'heavy duty' springs they tend to be designed for weight carrying and not offroading they will work ok but tend not to compress enough too many lbs per inch. A standard setup is fine mabe land rover hd rears if you are towing alot. Not seen brit part stuff as yet but i wouldot use them jai

I have bearmach blue springs fitted to my disco 1 - i didnt need to change brake pipes or other stuff underneath

use mine quite happily off road. with my 265 AT tyres i wanted to have longer bump stops and the harder springs but my tyres still rub on axle twisters on the wheel arches

when you are not towing they will give you a bit of extra clearance and when you do tow they are a great help. The only thing i found was be careful with sudden chages of direction. A car turn off in front of us the other day with no indicators my wife was driving and braked swerved around the car then swerved back in. The combination of swinging it 1 way then another we both nearly crapped ourselves thinking it was gonan roll :D

just my 2 pence worth from my own experience
