Spray-on mud and speed cameras?

Hi,

Does anyone use spray-on mud, or know anyone else who does?

I am a journalist researching a story on products like the one at
http://www.sprayonmud.com.

Have you used such products, or know any stories about people who have?

What are the ways in which it can be used and why? Such products are
marketed to 4x4 owners looking to give their vehicle an authentic
just-been-up-the-side-of-a-mountain look, but I have read from some
people who say they could be used to cover cars' registration plates to
avoid detection by speed cameras (something the manufacturer of the
above product says it does not condone and an activity it
discourages)... Got any stories about either of these uses? Ever used
spray-on mud yourself to avoid getting nicked or flashed?

What do you think of spray-on-mud - handy way for busy drivers to get
4x4 street cred, pointless yuppie posturing, perfect way to evade the
long arm of the law?

I'd love to hear from anyone who has used this type of thing or who has
any anecdotes.

If you'd rather not be identified, email [email protected].

Thanks.

Well , personally I'd just use real mud which can be found F.O.C. quite
easily.

Oh , and I've seen trafPol pulling over cars with illegible numberplates and
making them clean them at the side of the road

You're really a copper looking for some easy nicks aren't you? C'mon you can
be honest with us, we won't tell. ;)

No. Neither am I trying to get publicity for the retailer of this
product, as has also been suggested. No ulterior motive - I'm asking
here because I thought I was looking at a knowledgeable community of
expert motoring enthusiasts.

People here like Sierras, Jap imports, Capris and Alfas. You're looking in
the wrong place...

I find that a drive around a muddy field before going to the supermarket
carpark works wonders at keeping people away from my 4x4. They don't like
getting their clothes dirty so don't try and squeeze a trolley next to me. I
don't know if it would ward off the eco warriors who are against 4x4s as I
have never met one. Perhaps the mud keeps them away too. As to numberplates
I do keep them clean; and lights, mirrors and windows.

Woa I detect a cross posting, I once drove a sierra for sure, but I do not
like Jap imports or any kind of 4x4 that does not have a land rover badge
and was made this side of the millenium

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the

LOL.

I've got all the mud you could want, but does anybody want to buy it?

Cross posting is not good form, even for a journalist. And mixing your
countries up is even worse, it smells of a newbie freelancer.
An article on spray on mud may tittilate readers of some obscure rag or
another, but there are many more important issues that you could address.
Try actually reading the ng's that you cross posted to. You'll find a wealth
of ideas.

Cheers
Jim

The stuff is probably made by a company in which the local equivalent of the
NSW Police Association has a majority shareholding.

And if you'd done, as a 'real' journalist might have, some basic research
and actually read a while some of the posts on this group, you'd have found
that there are few, very few, indeed probably none, who would ever need
spray-on feckin' mud.

This is a forum for Landrovers, not BMW's or Lexus or ......

You're not seriously suggesting a journo should make an effort to get their
facts right and print the truth? Heaven's to Betsy! The Sun et al would go
out of business.

Speak for yourself, people in here would driver over a sierra, capri, alfa
or most jap imports like a speed hump.

Which group are you posting on behalf of (note the x-post)?

And what's to say that one of the above drivers won't appreciate a coat of
spray on mud? I've seen sedans with mud that many 4WD owners would only
dream of!
