Evening all having a few troubles with my 2.5 petrol 90

(sign a cross and run)

Yesterday it overheated going through the back roads where I live so I pulled over let it cool down and removed the thermostat as I knew it was faulty. The previous owner is not in my good books as there was a 93' thermostat fitted

So I replaced it with a new 82 degree stat and all was well but it wouldn't run properly so today I rebuilt the carb with new gaskets, seals, needle valve, air mix screw, diaphragms and cleaned all jets. After putting it back together today it started first turn. But when I press the throttle it bogged down a bit and was smelling rich. so I tweaked the air/fuel and slowed the idle down.

Now when driving if I floor it, it cuts out misfires and then regains with a bit of kangaroo juicing. I have done all of the above, replaced fuel filter and checked the lift pump and all is ok. Just wondering if anyone can help me out and give a few points to check after all the above. I do have a new ignition condenser to fit and new set of plugs.

Any ideas please...

Today I tried sorting it. Took it to my local land rover workshop and asked for some advice he couldn't be of much help as he said he usually gets asked to take petrol engines out and replace them with a tdi.

So I turned the idle down a bit put a cable tie around one of the pipes and it stopped 'hunting'
Turned the mixture down a bit too it runs loads better but still jumps a bit. I think its because the choke seems to be coming on when I push the throttle. Will try decreasing the levers and putting some WD on.

Did you set the floats to the right hieght?
I read somewhere that this is critical.

No i didn't Change the float though unless I was too heavy handed it shouldn't have changed should it?
I did change the needle valve and seat though.

Problem solved!!!! I hope....

Just went to put fuel in, literally 50 yards from my girlfriends house, was being a right tw@t to start then cut out at the pump. Filled her up, and would not start again so pushed it out of the way and begun exploring. Lift pump working, fuel filter filling, so I thought id check the spark, spark plugs out all of them were covered in fuel and carbon, cleaned them off with some rag and a wire brush and tested for a spark. Nothing.

So I had a new condenser in the back so I fitted it, turned the key. Fired up lovely, huffed some black smoke then idled perfectly. Took it for a little spin up the road and it appears that the juddering, kangarooing has stopped.

you should change condenser ,points ,cap,rotor arm, plugs and leads at the same time ,as part of a service

I have new points and cap as well just don't have the gauge for the dwell angle. Replaced leads with some rather boy racerish silicon ones, rotor arm and plugs done at same time.
