i have just recently replaced the aftermarket stereo in my 1997 4.6 HSE with an original diversity radio. The diversity radio is in excellent condition with nio problems but when i remove the aftermarket stereo inc the wiring loom and plug in the original radio i only get a high pitch noise out of the passenger side front tweeter. when the the aftermarket stereo is in all the speakers work. can anyone suggest what the cause is? possible amp damage or something? my friend and i have gone through the rave manual and printed out the fault diagrams but not finished yet. so any help suggestions? thanks again in advance.

Hi Flanders7,

The problem that you may have is that on the HSE the radio that was fitted originally did not have internal power amps these were located in the doors with the speakers. fitting an aftermarket stereo and making it work with the door amps is difficult to put it mildly, there are lots of leads about claiming they work, but I have not yet found a single one that does!

I suspect, that whenever the aftermarket stereo was fitted, the door amps were removed, only way to find out would be to pop a door trim off and have a look. The amp is a little unit with a long connector on one end. Rave is great but tells you actually very little about the set up of the HK system.

Have you bought a stereo with internal amps (this unit looks the same but was fitted to the SE spec vehicles and also late classics) or a 'proper' HSE spec one with no internal amps? What is the model number for the 'new' stereo?

Hope this is helpful! (a true can of worms, is my experience of this one when you start probing!)
