I have just bought a 2 year old rust free g4 90 roof rack off eBay for £300, and I can't seem to find any images or kits to but to mount the wheel up there, I don't want to be welding to the rack or using straps needs to be a solid bolt on job. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

you dont have much choice if you want to mount your spare up top.

You either have to weld a mount to the rack or strap it down. I have the same rack as you, if i wanted to do the same i would slide the wheel to a rear corner and then use a ratchet strap around the wheel, not over it.

Cant see any other way to be honest.

Don't forget that a spare is a heavy lump so you want to work out a way of getting it up there and back down. Chucking it off and collecting it from where it stops bouncing and rolling isn't really an option at the side of a motorway and you will always get a puncture when you're on your own. Then remember your local thieves. The b*******s who smashed my van window just because I left my sat nav bracket stuck to my windscreen wouldn't hesitate to take a wheel with a decent tyre on it. Even if they only get a tenner for it that will help to feed their habit.

Keep in mind the weight up there will impact the balance considerably. If you dont need it there dont put it there but if you really want it there central above the roof is the best place for minimal interferance to cog (centre of gravity).

UV damage will be considerable so get it covered.

cant you use a ladder holder, the one with a hook and a tread on the other end what you tighten up that holds ladders on to a roof rack ?

Ok cheers, think I'll just go with the strap idea, and getting it up is no bother did it this morning, to get it down I just lowered it down on a piece of rope!

this is what i was thinking of for holding your wheel in place
