What is the best way to fit extra lighting to my 90. I was looking in the Haynes electical diagrams and found a few spare circuits, how do I go about utilising these?

I noticed that there are spare connections behind the steering coloum switch cover, spares behind the center cigar lighter face plate, and even one under the car near the fuel tank - which I now think may actully be my hand brake switch as the light does not work for the brake.

Also if I take a direct feed from the battery, and the engine is running, will I still be using the alternator power.

The relay on the bulkhead infront of the drivers position I assume is the ignition relay which allows things to operate when the ignition is on, what is the standard switching load of that? What I want to know is if I can pull a few amps from it to run a circuit that comes on with the engine.

if its for extra lighting then use a relay system. much safer.
there are some diagrams on this forum somewhere.

Yea one of the items is lighting, I need 10amps for them. So I need to find a live feed, put a relay and switch onto it then feed the relay with a heavier supply to run said items.

Also, I want to put in another universal connector, would it be OK to connect this directly to the battery with an inline fuse? I want to mount the socket through the panel below the seat pad.

its certainly ok to do it that way, buts its frowned upon by the experts.

So what is there thinking of the setup that they don't approve of?

I will however be doing that! Thanks

they reckon everything should go through the fused box/es. and usually through the ignition controlled lines first.

i can see their point. but for us goons, its so simple/easy to get a live from the battery and put an inline fuse into it.
just make sure you switch the things off when u park up, otherwise a long walk home is on the cards.

not all eggperts think that way.. when i did me jag towbar i had to put in relays to avoid the bulb failure light coming on and was told by witter to take a feed ( with in-line fuse)from the battery to power the relays
