Sound proofing

That online shop does another version of the "silent 40" its a thicker one intended for use on military vehicles and trucks apparently so that might be better. I just saved one item from his shop in the myebay list so I knew where to go.

On the other hand, the Gold stuff gets a good review online and it's a bit thicker, they also do a 10mm one

I plan to line the floor with cheap stuff, 2.5mm sheets of closed cell foam just to hide rust, welds etc and then paste the heavy stuff over the top

That is the sort of stuff im after really. I want to do under the bonnet to cut out the constant engine drone and sound proof inside aswell i.e bulkhead, footwells, seatbox and rear floor etc. Do you think that sort of stuff would be ok for the roof also.

Should be alright for the roof, I'll be using the 25mm followed by the 2.5mm as I don't mind missing out on the inch or so of headroom due to being short.

Make sure you do the inside of the doors with thick stuff as a lot of noise comes from there due to the thin skin as they vibrate etc

I'm getting confused :p

The stuff you want for a roof is just closed cell foam, any thickness will work but I'd recommend the 25mm as it's hefty so it'll keep more heat in. Plus as long as you're short the headroom isn't a big deal.

If you're a bit taller use the thin 2.5mm silver one, the reason it costs more is due to that silver coating which makes it gives it better insulating properties so less foam is needed behind it. Either is good for the roof, just depends on what you want ;)
