It was bound to happen....

Freelander 1.8 petrol S reg

I havent checked the common faults section yet

BUT

Engine over running when ignition is turned off...

Temp gauge up to half within a mile from cold, yet interior heater still blowing cold...

Water checked at weekend- reservior empty ... topped up reservior 3 times until it maintained max level...

Engine done 100,000m and has had previous HG & CB replaced (not sure about the pump etc)...

Is it possible this could be caused by an air lock or does it sound like HGF??

Any help would be gratefully recieved .....

and before you all start & you know who you are lol ....yes i know

No oil milkshake ... the oil seems fine at the mo .... going to bleed tomorrow but any more info would be great thx all .

Heater blowing cold is a good sign of an air lock, the cooling system needs to be bled on the metal angle coolant pipe roughly below the air filter box and in the heater hose. Also you need your heater control turned to hot before bleeding.

What has happened after you topped up - is the level OK or has it dropped again?

Start off by bleeding your cooling system then check your coolant tank cap is holding pressure, check generally for leaks from hoses and hose joints, thermostat housing (down the back of the engine), inlet manifold gasket and water pump - engine needs to be hot and running to test properly!.

Is there any mayo on the dipstick or mayo floating around the coolant?

You could be lucky and its just a coolant leak :)

That man is a fantastic mechanic & such a lovely bloke.....

if you are away from home and start to loose water then undo filler cap this will take the presure of and you will more than likely get home or to the nearest help
