Hi guys,

Well I've gone from owning a Freelander to defender to Freelander to disco TD5 and now it's time to sell the TD5 and get an economical diesel car for my daily drive. A friend is selling me his series3 so hopefully I will be using this forum for hints and tips ing the way

Economical??

Welcome to the board. My series 3 has been my daily driver for the last 3 years. Minimum 200 miles a week sometimes a lot more. 26/28 mpg from 2.25 diesel until it dropped a hotspot and needed a lot of rebuild and machining work it was reliable if looked after.
Bloody slow and noisey though.

thats the joy of a series diesel and im still learning about mine

been onto the heritage museum with the serial numbers off me axles difs tranny box and gearbox to find out anything as to why its still only 40mph flat out

turns out i have a full original series 2 1ton set of running gear

gearbox is a different animal with lower ratios i believe, i think most 1tons were supposed to have 9.00x16 tyres on them (not sure if all did) and extended dumbirons/shackles, possibly an ENV axle under the rear so that ratio is fixed at 4.7:1 with only a very expensive crown and pinion change if you wanted to alter the ratios and retain the axle

there is a 1ton forum if you want to learn more about them

I'm looking at a series 3 88" petrol ragtop next week hopefully ;0)
