Some pedal problem diagnosis?

Hi all,

So, I posted a while ago about the Carawagon I have on my hands, been out in the drive doing some work on it today (as much as a know-nothing like I can do!).
So as I said the thing has been sitting for a long while now, but previously was in perfect working order.

I've got a problem with two of the foot pedals as follows:
Accelerator pedal is almost completely slack, as in it is hanging loose on the floor, you can lift it up with your toe. Is there any simple reason for this?

The foot brake will not move. It simply won't budge... I'm guessing this isn't a problem with the vacuum in the servo (correct me if I'm assuming incorrect things, my only experience is the workshop and repair manuals) as it would still move, but what can be the problem? General rust somewhere?

Have a look for the return spring on the accelerator. Check the bracket that it's attached too

Have you pumped up the brake? Will it go slightly slack if you start her up?

Hi there,

I didn't see one at all on the accelerator actually, is it in the footwell like the brake springs or is it further inside the workings?

Pumped it up? I'm sorry, my knowledge of such things really is awful! What does pumping up the brake entail?

Battery coming soon, so I'll report back on that last point later

Sounds like the go pedal has a broken cable / and / or spring ...as mentioned ...

brake pedal pumping is just what it says ...

try to push the brake pedal down hard and fairly fast ...

start the vehicle with your foot on the brake ...does the pedal drop a little under your foot

if it's been stood for a while it may pay to check all the fluids before starting the engine ...

Okay, that's a useful piece of info, thanks, I know where to start now

Ah! Okay, was being really dim there... I'll have a real hard go at it when I have a moment, perhaps I was a bit too timid if it's stuck somehow...

Yes, I imagine oil should be drained and new stuff added? Radiator too? Any others?

Depends how long it has stood ...

petrol in the carb will be duff ...stuff in the tank maybe

check oils in diffs, swivels and g/boxes ...

clutch and brake levels ...this will help find any leaks if you have them

now it's chilly don't forget your anti-freeze

Take your time, other wise your'll end up with too many half-done jobs and forget where you are ...

Yeah, I was anticipating that... jerry cans at the ready!

Okay, I'll look all those up in the workshop manual and do it all slowly, I'll learn a lot at the same time I'm sure!

The brake pedal itself will probably be okay but looking at the problem logically, the pedal moves other parts by the use of hydraulic fluid. If the master cylinder or the brake cylinders in the hubs have siezed then the pedal will not move.

Some pedal problem diagnosis?
