Some help/tip with my first Range Rover

Hello all

Hope some here can help me out.
I am seeking a new SUV, Range Rover model from 2007-2008.

The car will be used for long trips, outdoors, fishing trips, hunting, back packing and so. Not just a city car.

But, what to look for when hunting for a Range Rover?
How is the quality now? Some say it is bad. I do not know, but I see a lot of them, all kinds of Land Rovers, so I am not so sure what they mean about that.

What kind of engine to go for? Diesel or petrol?
I know the petrol cost more, will use more, but it is also cheaper to service and maintain. Or, am I not right?

All help/advice is good for me.

Why just the dielsel? Keeping the fuel bills down, but also over all a better engine?

fuel, yes obviously savings, cant comment on reliability of petrols as never had one in a landy.

there are forums better suited to newer range rovers, there are dedicated forums for the sport version. users here tend to have p38's which are 95 - 01 it might be worth hunting those forums down to get a better opinion on newer models!
