Hi
I have just brought a Series 3 as I have wanted one for a while. I've been lurking around this forum for a while now and have seen it has some very good info to offer, so I thought I would post this.
So it starts with me buying this:
Now I was very pleased with this, although I was very suspicious of the wacking great turbo on the 2.25 diesel and it smoked a bit.
I changed put a new rad and thermo in as the old radiator leaked like a sieve and then I changed the injectors for reconed ones, all good. I started it up and theres a terrible knocking coming from it, sump off and check big end bearings, ohh dear!
Bad. Now this is where I would like some advice, what else is likely to be broken, because of this? I will take the turbo off anyway so presumably that would be advisable anyway. Is it worth replacing the bearings for the sake of £15 to see what its like, or is it dead?
Also as you can see in the first picture the rear is too low, I think the rear springs are flattened as it has been parked like that for 2 years. I jacked the rear up and have oiled and greased them liberally inbetween the leaves but the arse end falls down again with so much as a flys weight. This is a pick of the rear spring hangers that I think should be at a 90 degree angle, not like these ones.
Last question, I promise. How much would you pay for a 2.5N/A with a 6month warranty fitted?
p.s I put my screwdriver through the passenger footwell today
Thanks for listening(if you did)
