Hi all,

Apologies if this has been asked before, but...

I'm very keen to buy a Range Rover (middle shape, i.e. not classic and not brand new) or a Defender.

My budget is relatively low - probably around the 10k mark. Much less if I can get away with it.

My concern with the Rangie is the electrics and multiple things that can go wrong - especially with the older vehicle.

I'll need to haul some stuff about too - mostly stone and timber so I was thinking a Defender might suit me better since (a) there is less to go wrong (b) I'd be less worried about keeping it tidy (c) I might get more for my money.

Bearing in mind I'm not an enthusiast in terms of mechanical work and I would have to get all repairs and maintenance done at a local garage (who I know and is a landie specialist)........what sort of price should I look to pay to get a decent vehicle that will last me a bit and not be a pile of rattling junk? I know Defenders are pretty agricultural anyway - so I will expect some wind, rain and rattles.

Any tips on price / models / anything else - gratefully received.

Thanks in advance guys and gals.
