Software updating

If you have a TD5 Defender it may be worth taking it to the main dealer and getting them to reset the ECU.
This will also download the last factory software that was produced.

OK it will cost you £100+VAT but l had my 2005 Defender (manufactured late 2004) done last week and it runs a lot better, smoother and more lively.

Beware though, that this will delete any aftermarket remap that is in the ECU.

Couldn't you read and save the remap on the Nanocom and then load it back up once the ECU has been updated? Quite surprised they have a software update for the TD5 engine 9 years after they stopped producing it though

Sorry to interrupt. But I'm struggling to use this site haha not to good we techno (even tho im 24) :/ was wondering how to get to ask questions about my td5? Im a new member to the site.

The main dealer still has software for the TD5.
Although l dare say there's been no software updates since 2006, if you have an older TD5 it will download the last update that was done.
What l can confirm is, that mine runs a lot better since the update.
It was OK before but it is now smoother at 2-3,000rpm and also more lively through the gears.
So much so that, l am not sure l want/need to get the remap re-installed.

I would recommend anybody planning to have their Defender TD5 remapped get this done first.
At around £100+VAT it could save you a fair bit of cash.
