So you're looking for a defender, what are you looking for when you troll through the for sales?

Is it price or age or condition or would you go for the one with the most extra's?

If it's for off roading then would you prefer a good solid base landie with excellent mechanicals or would you go for one that looks the part with a lift and rocksliders etc.

Reason I ask is that my 90, which I got as a stopgap vehicle to help me along while I get my project finished, will be sold at some time and I was wondering what sort of spec would get it sold quick with a good price.

Condition of chassis and bulk head, condition and age of engine and machanics next,
After condition of body,

Then depends what your using it for,
posing you want shiny ****,

Off roading any mod to improve it off road is worth it longer dampers lockers winch ect. Condition of body doesn't matter or not to me,

Everyday car you might want some nice interior bits.

Most important is chassis and bulk head everything eles is easy to swap and change.

Agreed about chassis, for too many ads don't even mention it:rolleyes:

My chassis will be good

bulkhead will be good

Engine is 2.5n/a so not so good (good starter etc though)

Body will be good

Axles and steering will be excellent

Could add 'A' bar with big lamps
Could add steering guard cause I've got one spare
Adding Swing away wheel carrier anyway

Interior will be good as well with middle dash, radio etc but not posh cause its 23 years old

Wolf wheels are coming off though and either steels or standard land rover ones going on.

I think it would be best to let the buyer choose tyres and alter the price accordingly depending on what the landy was to be used for

I think the five or six hundred quid required to fit a 200tdi would be a waste as the money would not come back in the selling price.

Don't mind fitting diff guards and maybe a snorkel if that would add extra value.

Maybe I'm wrong, I'm open to suggestions

Good standardish condition with a good chassis and bulkhead, good floors (on the drivers side at least) and a sound enough engine and a decent price!

Structural and mechanical integrity are the things I'm looking for, the cosmetics are secondary and can be sorted as and when, also one thing I've noticed on a lot of land rovers I've looked at in the last few weeks is none working door locks!

All mine work but can be opened with a screwdriver so I think a full set of new locks before sale, never thought of that.:)

The one I looked at today I could not get any of the locks to lock, not even from the inside!

The one from the other day had a different key for every lock and still wouldn't lock!

Price. Everything else can be fixed (bodged)

You're probably right.
I paid 2800 for a 110 a few years ago and it was a load of crap, the vendor said he needed it for a week so I could have it next weekend, didn't know he had gone offroading for a week in Wales in it, It had a tide mark of mud near the top of the tunnel and the front prop was f**ked when I got it and I never noticed the scratches on the sides from trees etc.
Should have got the first one I looked at for a grand and then fixed it up:rolleyes:

Make sure its not nicked, then chassis, bulkhead, gearbox, transfer box, engine and associated (expensive) components, checking its not clocked (dont mind if owner admits changing entire speedo unit as long as they can show previous mileage) and any service history (although thats not a big issue)
I dont care about interior or bodywork.
