Hi guys, had Irishrover come round the other day to use his faultmate on my p38 4.0, to try and get the bloody thing running right. Came up with the lambda sensors reading to high and chucking loads of fuel in the engine, replaced the lambda sensors last night. Started it up and ran nice, after 2 minutes or so it came off choke and started to try and find idle at 500rpm, which at this point was better than it had been. Then it proceeded to fluctuate and die. Started back up straight away with no revs, and ran for a further minute or so at idle, revved sweet with no misfire like before, so obviosly the lambda sensors have cured the overfuelling. Then it cut out again, started it up again, tried to give it a rev and it started popping through the inlet and exhaust, left it to tick ove, which it soon died again. Started it with no revs and straight away, not like before when you had to pump the throttle to get it to start. Left it idling for a few seconds, then tried to rev it where it promptly cut out.
Took the plugs out and not soaking wet with petrol like before but really sooty, is this (hopefully with all my fingers crossed) going to be my problem? Cleaning the plugs are going to be my job of the day, but am I just ****ing in the wind? I can see it going on ebay the end of the week :(:(. Any ideas or suggestions would be very much appreciated as now I am at the end of my tether, and to top it off I've now got rid of my only means of transport in anticipation of the Range Rover actually being on the road this week.:(:(:(:(:(:(

think i would try cleaning the fuel system first of all then the air system... has someone messed with the air intake.. ??? maf

sorry thats my best guess

Ive got to air flow sensors, Irish rover tried his on when he come and it was exactly the same, Ive got a fuel filter for it. Would low fuel make it pop and bang? The way my drive is sometimes makes it hard for cars to start if they are low on fuel

Still over fuelling, removed the plugs and cylinder 1 and 5 soaking wet. Cleaned all the plugs up and ran it again, still misfiring and popping. Took plugs back out and cylinder 5 soaking wet again after about three minutes of running. Now do I go coil packs or cam shaft sensor? Other than that anyone interested in buying it 4.0 v8 138k service history up to 125k.

hi matt, no help to you im afraid, but maybe you could help me, i am trying to get in touch with irish rover, hear he has got a sync mate and may live near me, cheers neil
