Hi folks, long time no post, as touch wood I have had no problems with my Freelander TD4 '02.
Well things change quickly in the world of the Land Rover.
I took the car in for a service 3 weeks ago, a couple of days later I started to get plumes of white smoke after the car was idling for a few minutes (i.e stuck in traffic) it would then kick out on acceleration for 30 secs or so then stop. This happens only when the car is warm, never happened on start up.
Took the car back for an MOT today and asked them to check it. When I picked it up they said they believed it to be a turbo problem and the smoke was definitely oil, or at least a mix of oil and water. Left the garage and low and behold I had a load of blueish smoke kicking out for the first few minutes, then nothing until I returned to the office. Left it for a bit and took it out again but nothing.
The garage said I had lost a litre of oil since the service (3 weeks) and they had topped it up for me.
Another small bit of info, my original problem was a loss of power on inclines back last year and the diagnostic was a high pressure problem which LR replaced and problem sorted. Prior to the service they spotted the connection for the turbo solenoid was disconnected so they reconnected it. I asked them to disconnect after picking it up from the MOT and this is when I got the load of blue smoke. Not sure if this is connected or what.
Do I get another diagnostic done? Or could it be something that won't show up i.e heat exchanger or breather? Really don't want to go down the route of a new turbo, very expensive in comparison to the value of the vehicle.
