hi all the sereis 2a has allways been slow at turning over .have just put a brand new battery on it /new ballast resistor /connected a few earths up that were just left dangling and now when i try to start it now it seems the glow plugs have taken all the power . and it will not start without jump leeds from my other car. when running its only charging at 13.8 . but there is no drop in charge when i put lights and heater on .my mate seems to think there is a poor earth on the heater plugs or the starter moter . but they look ok to me any advice here would be welcome as i want to use this vehicle all the time now for nipping and popping around was going to say bombing around cheers

Any corrosion or contamination on the high current wires will have a severe limiting effect on the starting current so remove and clean the terminals on the thick wire from the battery to the starter motor and the earths from the engine/gearbox to chassis/battery and chassis to battery. I presume the solenoid is integral to the starter motor? Might be poor contacts in the solenoid, a stiff starter or worn starter motor brushes and/or dirty/worn commutator.

yes thanks for that just been reading a lenthy post on a bad starter and it seems the advice is check and clean all the earths and power supply from battery to starter .well thats my jobs sorted for tommorro . might just get some new earth straps and replace them .could well be as old as the landy so could do with replacing cheers

hi all spent all morning cleaned up evry earth i could find fitted a new one from battery to body put new glow plugs in cleaned all wires on the starter .turns over much better now and starts easier now so thanks for that .just the rest of the wiringto sort out now . cheers

if you have the later parallell plugs fitted it does not need the earth connected that was used on the earlier pigtail series wired heater plugs near no 1 cyl
might have been reason for dangly earth
