Hi,

I have a coolant leak in my 96 110 300Tdi.... I was wondering if anyone has had similar and can help with diagnosis. It's a reasonably slow leak..leaves a small damp patch under it overnight. I suspect the water pump / p-gasket, but before I drain it and strip it down I thought i'd get some other opinions.

I have taken the belt off and can feel a almost insignificant bit of play in the water pump pulley.

I took some pics yesterday that show the area in question...

Hope someone can help..

Thanks :)

And get a spare set of bolts " sale or return". They have a habit if seizing/corroding/snapping. The time to find out is not halfway through the job. Also liberally coat with coppaslip/alislip to stop the problem in future.

Awesome,
Many thanks for the replies/hints. Much appreciated.
Another job for this week then... :)

Thanks.

also check the core plug on the front of the engine..

i didnt and after putting it all together found i still had a weap, and turned out the core plug had rotted through as well , probably from the leaking p gasket..

Hi,
Been there done that! Exactly the same happened to me. Then within a few months the new water pump failed due to crap bearing. Sorry, only just read your post. I did notice in your pics that the other core plug visible appeared to be quite new. If one has gone they are usually all very close to going. Check the rest when you get a chance, or keep a bottle of rad seal in your glove box!
