SJ413 stalls when I break

Hey anyone got an idea why a Suzuki SJ 413 would stall when breaking?
I cant see any splits in the vacuum pipes to the servo unit.
It has the Webber carb fitted and restarts ok after stall.

If you have an EGR valve in that, I would suspect that being carboned up
as the first thing to check. A good clean with carb cleaner can do them
wonders. Second would be the brake booster if it has power brakes.

Nigel, go to www.zuwharrie.com, getcha a account set up and go to the
samurai tech bb. There's a guy out there named Sarge that is a Webber guru
for Sammys. before getting a ID and asking the question, try the search
feature first. Good luck.

This morning I have disconnected the break vacuum pipe and plugged it off so
the breaks were not servo assisted anymore.
The fault is still there so the engine is disconnected from all other things
that would cause a conceivable problem as far as I can see. The clutch is
down I am approaching a junction and it stalls so the only thing I can put
it down to is the floats in the Weber carb moving when I break and shutting
of the fuel supply.
The Weber is stamped up DGR 3167 I am told it came of a Ford of some form.

But surely my float idea can not be right there should be enough fuel in the
float chamber to cope during breaking, unless the float has a hole in it or
has a badly bent/ adjusted arm.

There is a guy on here

Not exactly it is a one off built out of galvanised steel I am currently
re-making a windscreen for it.
I am also making a 30 Cal Browning pedestal for it.

I got the float bit the wrong way round if it had a hole in it the carb
would over flow!
So tonight I stripped down the carb top to look it over.
It was very dirty in the float chamber so I have striped out the jets and
cleaned it all with carb cleaner, it looks like a Mk2 Escort carb like I had
on my other jeep so have checked the float adjustments by what it shows in
the Haynes manual and it looks OK.

Have put it back together and it still starts will test it on Friday if it
still stalls I will mall adjust the float.

Mine's a stock Sammy and I had that problem... push in clutch to slow
up for a stoplight or yield, and the engine crapped out. Restarted
with no problem. Shifting to neutral and keeping RPMs up while
braking with left foot got me home. I ended up running a boatload of
carb cleaner (smoked like a sonofagun) and engine cleaner additives
through it and it cleared right up. Probably a gunky carb. I spent
probably less than $20 on carb cleaner and fuel additive stuff to
solve the problem. That was about 8 mos ago, and it's still running
great. 98,000 miles on the clock and never did anything but carb
cleaner, fuel additives that one time and standard oil/fluid changes.
These Samurais were built to last pretty much trouble-free if you take
care of 'em!!!

Yes I know what you mean this is my third SJ I also have a current model
Carry van and have even had one of the old Bedford Rascal vans also a
Suzuki.
They are quite dependable but this one has a Weber carb of a ford fitted
that looked full of mud or some other brown substance that I will not
mention! LOL.

Sounds like idle RPM is low or air cond could be the bad boy . When air
is used rpm should rise to offset increased load. Check idle or crub
idle . Keep it simple. C U Slackoff....

Disconnecting break asset is a unwise move. A hand vacuum pump should be
use to check for loss of vacuum. this test is very easy to do and cheap.
C U slackoff....

Air con ! you didn't look at the picture did you. LOL
The only common denominator is the vehicle decelerating the engine could be
in a shopping trolley or on the back of a tow truck, I have stopped with
clutch down and break vacuum pipe disconnected and plugged and it still
stalls.
Rev the engine on the spot it is fine, but if it is moving at 25MPH then
decelerated it stalls.

It may be ok now though I cleaned it all out last night just haven't driven
it yet!

I only tested it in my road that way to prove it was not a vacuum problem
it's back on now and cost me nothing.

I don't know your engine, but is there an EGR valve just below the
carb? This lets exhaust into the intake at full throttle to cool things
down a bit for emissions. If you have one and it gets carboned up, it
will get 'slow' and stall the engine when you decelerate fast.

Yes you are talking about the valve from the intake manifold to the rocker
cover also connected to the air filter.
The guy has left the pipe dangling down the side of the engine where it
should go to an air filter.
I have looked on the K&N filters web site and it says block off the valve
and just take the crank case emission pipe to the air filter.

So today I have blocked of the valve I have also made the fuel mixture more
rich and turned up the idle speed, it has helped but I sill get some
stalling now and then.
I think a filter would be nice in the emission pipe before I poke it into my
air filter!

You are talking about a PCV valve that pipes to the intake and the
crankcase intake air breather tube that connects to the air filter. You
want a filter on that air tube for sure or you will suck dirt into the
engine.

The EGR valve actually mixes exhaust into the intake just below the carb
if you have one. It will be fed by a small vacuum line.

Do you know how to set the 'best lean idle' on your carb?
