HI all,

Does the oil in the ball joints on the front axle come from the diff? Or is
it similar to the front axle on series ii Landys, where each joint has its
own oil supply.
The reason I am asking, is that mine are leaking, and I want to know if I
can use the same trick used on landys, and drain the oil and fill the joints
wih grease?

Thanks for any advice
Rob

Hi Rob,
No they are fed from the diff. Rotty

There should NOT be any oil in the ball joint housing! If oil is leaking out
this indicates the failure of the axle oil seals. The CV joints should be
packed with grease as the norm. Oil escaping from the axle into the swivel
housings will eventually flush out the grease and seriously shorten the life
of the CVs. And if enough oil escapes the diff might go with a bang, too!
Please note that the large seal on the back of the swivel housing is a DUST
seal, not an oil seal as in LR/RR.
Fit new oil-seals ASAP.

Thanks for that info Simon. I will do that asap. Thought those seals looked
a bit soft to be oil seals.

Cheers

Don't forget to get the felt seals and swivel rubber, the felt will not come off
without tearing.
