Silicone hoses - worth it?

Hi all

I hope this is in the right section! And please point me in the direction of any threads discussing this as I can't find anything on here.

I've been thinking of getting silicone turbo/intercooler hoses for my Disco 1 300TDI.

I have removed the EGR and the replacement top hose seems very thin and far too flexible IMO. I also noticed that the rubber bits on the bottom intercooler hose were quite soft.

The question I'm asking is - do you think silicone hoses would be worth the cash? They're about £45 from what I can see, and if it's going to boost the power then I'm willing to pay it :5bsmilielol5:

I would imagine they're not getting the full potential from my turbo. It doesn't seem to be massively lacking in power, however it does seem to accelerate better sometimes than others (if that makes sense).

I'm going to get the pump tweaked shortly which should help things too!

It wont boost the power (unless you have a leak, bit it will cut down on lag, rubber has a bit of give so will balloon ever so slightly as boost increases, silicone doesnt, so reduces lag.
IMO more engine bay bling than function in a fender/disco they are usually used when upping the boost on performance cars where normal rubber would baloon more, or split.

Oh yes it does
 
The normal hoses can also delaminate (think that is the right word) inside and limit power without you being able to see it.

I put black ones on mine and it has tidied it up.
 
No power increase, no reason to if you think about it.

Silicon hoses delaminate just as much as rubber, they look nicer and cost more than rubber.

Engine-bay bling, just as my learned associate says above.

my point exactly, they would only "increase" power if the old hoses were failing in some way, but then only to the point new rubber would.

Sorry for being really thick but why would the hose "balloon" if it is sucking air in. Or do you mean collapse. Like to keep an eye on mine just checking what to look out for.:confused:
 
post turbo, they are under pressure, pre turbo the hoses are not under enough negative pressure for it to make a difference.
Under normal pressure, and in our engines, its not enough to notice.
collapsed hosed are when they delaminate, and the hoses collapse internally, and cause a restriction.
If your running somthing like a highly modified, high performance motor, it can add to the lag from the turbo.

Not really, the trick is to use the Google search above not the "pound land" search button above, its about as much use as.........

Ah that's probably what I did wrong, apologies!

I may replace with original hoses if they're cheaper. Mine just seem quite pathetic and flimsy
