I've just removed the head from my 1980 SIII to fix the blown head gasket and convert to unleaded. There were no washers associated with the head bolts. The (downloaded 'exploded' L/Rover .pdf ) parts catalogue show washers. Can anyone give a clue if the washers were fitted to an engine of this era? Head is marked with 1278 ( say dec 1978 ?) Also - what is the best head gasket to use - copper composite, steel composite or other (It's a copper thats blown 'tween' 3 & 4 cylinders)
