Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good retailer of side steps, particulary for a
Frontera LWB. How much can I expect to spend on these?

It's strange that the only real bab area of rust on the vehicle is on
the passenger step! Looks terrible!

Thanks for your time.

I had some (Shogun) side steps fitted by Formula 4x4 last week (an A-bar the
week before that). Very good price, very good service. If you're into
off-roading, usually always some very interesting people to chat with while
you're waiting. One guy I was chatting with got over £250 off some alloy
wheels (with tires) simply because they'd been displayed in the showroom
for months. They looked brand spanking new. So for those who can't visit,
it might be worth asking on the phone whether they've got discounted
ex-showroom stuff available.

Fine for stick on tat but that's about all, make sure you ask if their prices
include VAT otherwise you will be in for a surprise when the credit card bill
arrives.

Not at all. I was already aware of the price and paid on the spot (on both
occasions). They're certainly a lot cheaper than my local Mitsubishi parts
supplier (Holdcrofts). Tires/alloy wheels, even at the regular price, are
incredibly cheap from Formula 4x4 - again - compared to local prices.

For fitting, they don't charge by the hour either, which often works to your
advantage if you forsee problems. I didn't want to do the A-Bar myself
because my mechanic had a job removing a lot of bolts when we overhauled
the vehicle back in June. I just couldn't be arsed. F4x4 rolled it in,
encountered the problem with two bolts which, in total, consumed 2.5 hours
of their time. Less than 20 minutes after that to fit the A-Bar, yet they
still charged the standard (£20+VAT/Trade) price for fitting.

I brought 20 wheels from them, they were the only ones that had the wheels I
wanted with the correct offset, no mention was made on the phone that their
prices excluded VAT, when I complained after I got the bill, they got very arsey
indeed.

Bronco are local to you, have you compaired their prices ?

Really? When I saw their catalogue I found almost no
products of use to off-roaders... mostly styling gimmicks.
When I enquired which of their sill bars/side steps
were strong enough to hi-lift on they didn't seem
to understand what I meant, and when I explained
the person on the phone said something like "we're
not into that side of things".

Bronco have recently hiked their prices up for no apparent reason. As a
ballpark figure they've added something like 30% on everything :-( I
thought it was odd when they stopped putting prices in their magazine
adverts.

You can now buy new Pirelli MTR's cheaper than Bronco's price for
remould MT's !

No idea why and when I asked them on the phone no answer was forthcoming (
as a result no order was forthcoming from me). Even Simmonites (not
known for their low prices) Fedima extremes are cheaper than Bronco's
equivalent.

I wish I'd bought my new set of tyres 6 months ago now.

I've not checked their prices recently, I guess they now have the market sewn up
so they are now exploiting it.

That being said their build quality has also improved, I still run tubes tho ;-)

I think the build quality has improved since they stopped making the
tyres themselves and got a company in France to make them :)

A friend recently bought a set of 265/75 (I think they were) Grizzly
Claws off them with tubes fitted... ready for the Belgium National. He
noticed his first puncture when he got on the ferry, the second came on
the Saturday.... seems that they only have 7.50/16 tubes and fit them to
all their tyres, no matter how big they are ! He ended up paying through
the nose in Belgium to get them replaced with the correct size tubes.

cheers
