L322 Should these things light up?

I have the illuminated sill plates in my car I believe as I had to take one out the other day and found that it has wiring to it and I can't imagine it is anything else, and yes, I have cleaned it before refitting!



I've not seem them lit and I expect that it would be fairly obvious, are they prone to failure?

On top of that, this is my second L322 now and the glovebox button doesn't illuminate on either car which I find odd as the start button does and even the heater vent dials have lights in them. Does yours light up? I'd be grateful for a comparison and equally, if you have the light up sills and want to show off, put a pic up for me

I would have to go out in the dark to get a pic, Being a youngster I am not allowed out after dark .

But I may make a quick trip for pic purposes for you.
I know our sills light up, but not sure I have noticed the glove box.

It's not a case of being allowed out after dark, at this time of year I don't want to be in the car when it's dark, I either want a beer in my hand or to be asleep!

The sill was plugged in, yes. I was wondering if it was a case that it lit when the interior lights come on, goodness knows it could do with some more bulbs to hammer the battery! Or if it was something more unnecessarily clever like the logic of only working if the lights had been on or in some way connected to the ambient light sensor in the mirror. Knowing what I do about LR electrics, I wouldn't put it past them!

I will sneak out and unlock then open the door and surprise it with my camera .

Well I snuck out under the cover of darkness and I can confirm our glovebox button doesn’t light up either.

The sill plates only illuminate when the 'puddle lamps' are on - i.e. when the light sensor determines it's 'dark'.

Now you will get paranoid whenever they don't light up !!

It's a Vogue sir so just the base model really but I'd expect if they were there and wired I would see them lit. Neither of them seem to do anything and I was actually out at 11pm yesterday so I'd expect to have seen them on when I got in the car.

I did seriously doubt you were daft enough to think they were bulbs but given some of the daft questions we get

maybe they only light up when the door is shut, we all know how much LR like useless features

sadly, they are the pauper ones.. so they can't break, meaning the break-goblin will have to look at chewing on something else instead

Clearly it’s daylight outside and they are on.

fixed that for you

My puddle lights come on during the day and when there are no puddles. Looks like I have 2 faults

Yep, sorry - the behaviour I mentioned is L405, 2010 onwards L322 is sill plates on when puddle lights on.
