I am currently replacing my VCU and mounts and was wondering....

as the prop is off, should I replace the UJ's?

Is it a hard job? Has anyone done these before?

Thanks

Neil

Hi Neil.
If you are changing the VCU and mounts it maybe wise first to check the Uj's for tightness or even if they seem loose, if you do change them make sure you get good quality ones for the replacement link below, not an hard job to change but a bit tricky you have to tap them through one end until you can get the cap off then they release easy, also copper grease the new ones when inserting this is my opinion only, I am sure a more experienced member/owner will add to the thread.

Thanks Artic2.

The UJ's seem fine, they're nice a loose, no stiffness in them at all ... I could probably take them out and clean them and put them back.

The main reason I ask is I have to replace the front gaitor on the prop, and found this kit

that has also got the UJ's in. The gaiter is about £30, so wondered if it would be worth spending a bit extra to get the new UJ's and replace them

Hi Neil
You almost certainly damage the Uj's removing them, I tried my hardest not to damage them when I changed all the prop shaft's and VCU on my FL 1 I bought the ones in the link to add to the rear shaft I took off so I always have a spare, in the end I found out I did not need the VCU as it was my rear brakes binding which was causing the judder, so I also have a spare VCU.
If you are having to change the front gaitor then it seems a good buy always nice to have a few spares :)
