Hi all, I"m going to look at a high mileage Freelander 2 GS TD4 tomorrow. When I say high mileage it"s 171000 but with a Full Service History and MOT until Dec 2024. Could someone tell me what Spec this model has, eg Heated Seats/Screen etc etc and is the mileage Too high? and what should I be looking for in such a high mileager. I worry because my Serengeti Mark1 Auto has only 155000 miles.
Any help or advice gratefully accepted.
Cheers

GS is pretty basic, especially if you want useful items like heated seats or front screen, both being optional on that model.
It will have CC and reverse sensors, but otherwise they're pretty spartan.

The SE gets the best spec for the money, which is what I have.

Hi Nodge and I like Chips. So do I! But is the mileage Too high or should I walk away from this vehicle?
I wish now I had bought Nodges car all those months ago but at the time I was in and out of hospital having treatment so I was unable to take up that option. IF ONLY.
I Like Chips:-There"s no point in me looking up vinderz.com because I havent even seen the car yet.

If it's cheap, then high mileage generally isn't a problem, providing it's had better the LR maintenance. You don't say what year it is, so I don't know if it has a Gen3 or Gen4 Haldex, the latter being susceptible to failure before the 150k/ 10 year service intervals.
At those miles all driveline components could be at risk of failure, as they simply aren't serviced in a timely manner. Of course it's also likely that failure items have already been replaced. The engines are generally good for 300k miles, although start to get rattly after 150k due to valve train wear.

No point in dwelling on things out of your control. There's hundreds of FL2 for sale every week, and as summer comes round, the prices will drop slightly.
I'm thinking about passing mine on if an EV comes along, but it's a manual, so no good to you.

Hi Nodge,
Have now tried a 2013 HSE AUTO with 157 miles. The owner freely admits it has a noise from the rear, might be Wheel Bearing but has done nothing to find out what it is. It drives very nicely, everything works, but the noise(not very loud) is a concern..I know without seeing it it is hard to give a judgment but could you just give a rough estimate of what it Could be???

Noise from the rear is either a rear wheel bearing, or the rear diff. The wheel bearings are quite long lived, but at 160k could be the issue. The diffs are a known weak point, so diff bearing failure can't be ruled out.

What's the price of a recon diff and Haldex service at Bells? Add that to the cost of replacing both wheel bearings and you'll know how much you may be into. If you get it at a price that will cover those costs, then its attractive, if not, then it isn't!

Having said that, at 157k miles, check stuff like cam belt change and any other service stuff like box fluid change, rotors and pads etc.

A car with problems I recon can be a good buy. If you fix those problems you know you've got new/recon gear in there that should last a long time. If you buy it as supposedly all good, you don't know if that's true or what life's left in stuff.
